APPLICATION PROCESS

Applicants may be rejected on the basis of an incomplete application or failure to meet minimum qualifications. EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination may consist of any combination of a(n): training and experience (T&E) evaluation, written knowledge test, hands on/performance test, structured panel interview, situational judgement interview, or other type of exam of fitness for duty. All parts of the examination process are job related. A passing score must be attained on each portion of the exam to advance to the next stage and ultimate placement on an eligibility list.

DISABILITY ACCOMMODATION

Requests for reasonable accommodations for the testing process must be made no less than two (2) days prior to the examination. Requests must be signed by your medical doctor, school psychologist, or learning consultant as appropriate and must be on provider letterhead and contain an actual signature.

EXAM PROTESTS

Protest of any part of the exam process must be in writing and submitted to the Personnel Director no later than five (5) working days from the date you participated in the exam. Any protest must include rationale to support the protest and shall include supporting documentation or references. Protests must be based on illegal discrimination, abuse of discretion, or procedure/process error. Protests should NOT be based on receiving unexpected results. We cannot be responsible for lost mail, misdirected mail, or failure of mail to be delivered after it has been entrusted to the U.S. Postal Service.

ESTABLISHMENT OF ELIGIBILITY

Candidates who are successful in all screening and testing stages will be placed on an eligibility list. The eligibility list created from this recruitment will expire after six (6) months, and may possibly be extended for one (1) year. Candidates on the expired eligibility list are no longer considered for positions within the class. Eligibility lists may be extended beyond one year or expire sooner than one year. Eligibility lists may be merged, in which case candidate ranks may change.

SELECTION PROCESS

Candidates on the eligibility list will be called in rank order to participate in final selection interviews with the hiring manager until three ranks of candidates have accepted the invitation to interview. Ranks may include ties so more than three candidates may be called to interview for a vacant position.

OFFERS OF EMPLOYMENT

Employment offers are subject to satisfactory completion of ALL the pre-employment processing including: successful completion of a physical examination, if applicable, tuberculosis examination, fingerprint clearance by the California Department of Justice, and proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

POSITION DETAIL:
Work shift: 8:00am - 5:00pm (1 hr duty free lunch)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

NOTE: The job class of Warehouse Leadworker is undergoing a comprehensive revision to the jo specification, including change in title. The duties below will accurately represent the scope of work to be assigned.

Under the direction of the Director of Purchasing or designee, lead and be responsible for the daily operation, inventory, access, and deliveries of the District warehouse.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Lead the daily operations of the District warehouse.
  • Lead, plan, and organize the receiving, storage, and distribution of all supplies, materials, and equipment received in the District warehouse.
  • As directed by the Director of Purchasing, assists in directing the warehouse activities of subordinate warehouse employees, including the inspection of shipments received for conformity to purchase order specifications.
  • Report shortages, damages, or other discrepancies in orders and deliveries to Purchasing.
  • Lead, assist in directing, train, and assign as necessary subordinate warehouse employees.
  • Participates in and assists in directing staff activities to fill and deliver warehouse orders.
  • Leads and assists in directing staff in conducting physical inventory counts (e.g. monthly, semi-annual, annual, etc.) as requested by the Director of Purchasing.
  • Maintains on-hand item inventory quantities and reconciliation within ESCAPE.
  • Determines and recommends inventory stock levels.
  • Assists with coordinating the disposal of surplus/obsolete equipment.
  • Ensures the accuracy of the asset recording and tagging of assets arriving at the warehouse.
  • Assist in directing, schedule, and route furniture/equipment move requests and warehouse deliveries.
  • File, maintain, and compile records and prepare reports as requested by the Director of Purchasing.
  • Oversee the service and routine maintenance of warehouse forklifts and other warehouse equipment.
  • Operate forklift safely to load and unload trucks.
  • Ensures warehouse facility and all contents are maintained in an orderly, clean, and safe condition.
  • Address questions and/or complaints in a professional manner.
  • Provide input/feedback to the Director of Purchasing when requested for subordinate warehouse employees who are currently being evaluated.

Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:
Graduation from High School or GED required; and at least three (3) years of experience performing duties related to warehouse inventory control, general warehouse operations, mail/package delivery service, or a combination of related experience.

*Alternate variations of education/experience may be considered by Personnel Commission staff as acceptable to qualify for participation in the examination process resulting in an eligibility list.

Licenses/Certifications/Special Requirements:
Valid California Class C Driver’s License
Valid Forklift Certification within 6 months of employment

JOB COMPETENCIES: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Warehousing procedures and practices related to receiving, storing, issuance, and distribution of supplies, materials, and equipment;
  • Inventory processes and procedures;
  • Principles of supervision, training, organizing, and scheduling of work for subordinate warehouse employees;
  • Record-keeping techniques;
  • Electronic systems used for purchasing and inventory purposes;
  • Applicable sections of the California Education Code, and Federal laws, state codes, county ordinances, and District policies and administrative regulations;
  • Health, safety, and sanitation regulations;
  • District organization and operations;
  • Proper loading and unloading of trucks;
  • Safe driving practices and California traffic laws;
  • Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment;
  • Telephone techniques and etiquette;
  • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary;
  • Mathematical calculations;
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy;
  • Proper lifting techniques;
  • Use of technology including Outlook, Excel, & Word.


Ability to:

  • Lead, schedule, plan, assist in directing, and organize work for subordinate warehouse employees;
  • Utilize warehouse space efficiently and effectively;
  • Operate a forklift, pallet jack, and other warehouse equipment involved in the performance of duties;
  • Shelve, store, and stage shipments of supplies, materials, and equipment for delivery and/or distribution to locations within and outside of the District;
  • Prepare reports;
  • Meet schedules and timelines;
  • Work independently;
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
  • Exhibit punctuality;
  • Load and unload shipments of supplies, materials, and equipment;
  • Read, learn, understand and follow maps to locate, pickup, and delivery along assigned routes and desig­nated courses;
  • Understand and observe legal and defensive driving practic­es;

Check, clean, and ensure proper working condition of District owned or leased vehicles by checking tire pressure, fuel, oil, and water levels.
